Thursday Favourites

You guys are AWESOME! I saw bags of FREE rice being poured out for families on the television. Our contributions matter when given to a larger cause, even though the price of rice has doubled in the last six months. To this I say - click on the ads! The click-through rate increases revenue to help provide the FreeRice.com website. Note: A majority of the costs are covered by the UN.

Holy cow Batman! It's real hard to get rid of a bomb, eh?

TRUE STORY: I tried to delete my Facebook and failed. Facebook should be limited to college students, or those of equal education.

And another from the think-tank at CollegeHumor.com, Things Amir hasn't done. Until a year or two ago, Amir had never learned to ride a bicycle.

Hand-Gun Ban

David Miller, mayor of toronto, is calling all Canadians to consider a Canada-wide hand-gun ban. The increase of severe violence involving guns, knives, drugs, or general abuse has risen across Canada.

As a Canadian I took pride in our gun control laws. What happened? Why are a few destroying one of our great prides? Stand up, read the petition, and consider if you would join the non-violent fight to remove hand-guns from our society.

Sealion

Calgary's Feist tore up at the 2008 Juno's last night. I have briefly heard her music throughout the year, but I had not downloaded, listened, or read up on her. Her performance of Sealion Woman was the epitome of Canadian Indie!
Here's hoping I can catch her on her summer tour.

Watch last night's performance:

Also - Russle Peters was his usuall hilarious self. Everything else was boring.

Shitake Mushroom

When I was a child I could eat mushrooms as candy. As a nutrition-starved vegetarian I put them on my pizza. Then I found out where they came from. Regular farmed button mushrooms are nothing compared to the East-Asian Shitake Mushroom.

The shiitake (Lentinula edodes) is an edible mushroom native to East Asia, which is cultivated and consumed in many Asian countries, as well as being dried and exported to many countries around the world. It is a feature of many Asian cuisines including Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Thai.
